The challenge

The Metropolitan Police needed to implement a new, consistent approach to developing interfaces from both a UX and UI perspective. The goal was to homogenise different data sources into a single interface, enabling officers to make more informed decisions quickly.

The existing system had disparate data sources and inconsistent user interfaces, leading to inefficiencies and delayed decision-making for police officers.

My role
To introduce a consistent user experience and methodology across all internal applications.

My tasks
I conducted user research field studies and interviews with officers from command and control to those on foot. I collaborated closely with data analysts and internal SMEs to understand data constructs and usage. I ensured the interfaces were optimised for desktop, tablet, and mobile devices in various challenging environments. I also wrote the UX guidelines for iOS and Android devices, reducing duplicate data entry and establishing a single source of truth.

Outcomes
The project resulted in a consistent user experience across all internal applications, significantly improving officers’ data visualization and decision-making speed. The new interface reduced duplicate data entry and provided a reliable single source of truth, enhancing overall operational efficiency.
